Battle Road 5K Was a Historic Success
The Inaugural Battle Road 5K Road Race was a great success. The race held on Sunday, May 22, 2016 attracted over 300 runners and walkers to the historic Minute Man National Park’s Battle Road Trails in Lexington and Lincoln, MA. The race sponsored by NGAMA’s Charitable Foundation, was organized by NGAMA Executive Director Augie Grace and Road Race Chairman CPT Molly Alesch.
The day started with greetings from Massachusetts National Guard Adjutant General Gary Keefe and NGAMA First Vice President LTC Jason Oberton. Then the Jubilation Singers from the McCall Middle School in Winchester, MA sang America the Beautiful and the National Anthem.
The Top Male Finishers were: Michael Trendell, Salem, MA (18:19), Kyle George, Lexington, MA (19:00) and Alex Mangelli, Arlington, MA. (19:44). The Top Females runners were Stephanie Burnham, Hudson, NH (20:16), Yvonne Green, Lexington, MA (20:20) and Emily Miller, Cambridge, MA (21:35). The Adjutant General’s Cup for the best Military team was won by Team RRB from the Massachusetts National Guard Recruitment and Retention Battalion (Emily MacLean, Anthony Ortega, Robert Peters, Bianca Pyrtle, and Danielle Sullivan). The second place Military team was Task Force Patriot followed by 212EIS. The winning Civilian team was Team Free Tom Brady.
Over 200 people attended the Awards Ceremony held at Lexington’s Waxy O’Connor’s Irish Pub. Maj Gen Keefe, LTC Oberton and MAJ Michael Currie presented Medals and Trophies to the top 3 finishers for both male and female runners in 7 categories. Radio Station MIX 104.1 provided music and prizes at the Awards Ceremony.
All proceeds benefited NGAMA’s charitable ventures including scholarships, professional development and financial assistance. We thank all of our sponsors.
